Located in the northwest of Singapore, the SRP used to be part of a landfill site known as the Lim Chu Kang Dumping Ground. Landfilling operation in the Lim Chu Kang Dumping Ground began in 1976 and was finally closed in September 1992. The land will require many decades to be stabilised before it can be utilised for more permanent developments.

The SRP is planned for redevelopment, with the feasibility study currently underway and expected to complete around end of year 2026, after which redevelopment is anticipated to begin.
