About SS 587
SS 587 is a voluntary Singapore Standard published in 2013, for the management of end-of-life ICT (infocomm technology) equipment. It provides companies and organizations using ICT equipment in daily operation with guidelines to manage the equipment in environmentally responsible ways when they reach their end-of-life. ICT equipment includes computers and mobile devices, etc. Environmentally responsible ways of managing end-of-life (EoL) ICT equipment include processes such as reuse, repair, material recovery and responsible disposal.
SS 587 is a certifiable management system standard, whose framework is aligned with other established international management system standards (e.g., ISO 14001, Environmental Management). It is based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act continual improvement approach.
