Socially-conscious Enterprise Hawker Centres

NEA partners SEHC operators to uphold standards and keep improving

NEA works closely with operators so that SEHCs continue to serve both diners and hawkers well. This active partnership goes beyond setting rules. Through regular site visits, meetings, feedback sessions and financial reviews, NEA stays close to day-to-day operations and follows up on issues raised. They include:

  • Regular weekly site visits by NEA centre managers to engage operators and stallholders, fostering open communication and a better understanding of day-to-day operations
  • Quarterly meetings between NEA and operators to track progress, discuss challenges, and work towards fulfilling performance targets
  • NEA centre managers participate in hawker feedback group sessions alongside operators, ensuring issues raised are tracked and followed up
  • Reviewing operators’ financial statements to ensure that their operations are sustainable and finances are properly managed.

NEA and operators engage stallholders via regular hawker feedback group sessions – clockwise from top left: (first 2 pictures) Fernvale Hawker Centre and Market; Hawker Centre @ Our Tampines Hub; Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre; Punggol Coast Hawker Centre; Jurong West Hawker Centre.

NEA attends selected stall tenancy agreement signing to ensure that operators explain the terms clearly to stallholders. After tenancy agreements are signed, operators must not impose any charges that were not specified in the agreements: Stall tenancy agreement signing at Bukit Batok West Hawker Centre (BBWHC).

A decade of SEHCs and continuing to grow

Since the introduction of the first SEHC in 2015, the SEHC model has matured and stabilised, becoming a valued part of Singapore’s community dining landscape. Over the years, feedback from stallholders, patrons and operators has helped shape the model, and this spirit of continuous improvement and partnership remains central to our approach.

We will continue to improve the SEHC model to better meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve. Through constructive engagement with stakeholders and ongoing enhancements, we look forward to ensuring that SEHCs continue to thrive as a cherished part of Singapore’s hawker culture for years to come.
