Energy Efficiency

Household Sector

Households play an important role in mitigating climate change. This can be done through designing an energy-efficient home, buying energy-efficient appliances, and adopting energy-saving habits. These acts go a long way in helping Singapore in its energy conservation efforts.

Households can also reduce their energy consumption use by practising simple energy-saving habits. By doing so, households can save money and help fight climate change at the same time.

Besides making the effort to save electricity at home, you can also be energy efficient in your workplace by using these energy management solutions to transform your workplace into an Eco-office!

Mandatory Energy Labeling (MELS) and Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) help improve the energy efficiency of a range of household appliances. By buying more efficient modelswith better energy efficiency ratings, households can consume less energy, save money on their electricity bills and help to reduce carbon emissions.

NEA is conducting a household energy consumption study that will involve up to 600 households from different housing types in Singapore.

Oneberry Technologies Pte. Ltd. will be carrying out the study on behalf of NEA. The study is open until September 2024.

The data obtained from the study will help NEA to study and trend energy consumption use in households.

Participating households will receive detailed information and trends on their household energy consumption at the end of the Study which will empower households to reduce their electricity use and save on utility bills.

Residents who are interested to participate in the Study can register at: www.greenhome.sg

Should there be queries pertaining to the conduct of the Study, you may email in to  NEA_energylabel@nea.gov.sg.

To foster a climate-friendly mindset among households, the Climate Friendly Households Programme (CFHP) was launched in November 2020 to support 1-, 2- and 3-room HDB households in their purchase of essential appliances/fittings (i.e. energy-efficient refrigerators, LED lights, water-efficient shower fittings), where they could claim digital vouchers amounting to $225.

To encourage households to be more resource-efficient, live more sustainably while saving on utilities in the long run, the CFHP was enhanced from 15 April 2024 to include all HDB households which can now claim $300 worth of Climate Vouchers. These vouchers can be used to purchase 10 types of energy- and water-efficient household products, with new additions such as direct current fans, washing machines and water closets. The new Climate Vouchers are valid until 31 December 2027.

10 eligible products

By switching to more efficient appliances and fittings, households can reduce their energy and/or water consumption, lower their utility bills, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and play their part in slowing down climate change.
