Passionate about protecting public health
We all interact with the environment one way or another and have a shared ownership to take good care of our living spaces. If we don’t keep our environment safe and clean, pathogens (e.g. bacteria / viruses) may spread rapidly, diseases may spread rapidly as well (e.g. avian flu), and it may go into our air or water resources. This may affect public health. I recognize that the Environmental Services Industry plays a crucial role in safeguarding public health, and to ensure that our environment is clean to live in.
Experiential learning through volunteering experiences
I consider myself to be a hands-on person, and I like to see how I can help the environment through hands on activities. In my previous volunteering experiences, I have participated in efforts to clean up Bishan Park as part of my CCA. I have also recently participated in a kayaking event where we picked up trash in the Kallang River. Both experiences were eye opening, as I realized that there is a lot of plastic waste, metal cans, and improperly disposed items that pollute both our land and our seas. These experiences showed me that more can be done to make our environment cleaner and greener.
