Practical and technically inclined
I chose mechatronics and robotics engineering because I’ve seen how automation has grown in increasing importance across multiple industries. When I thought about the longer-term, I realized that this course would give me more versatility in the future. It's fascinating how this connects to environmental services - especially with companies using more cleaning robots and smart technologies. Through my robotics CCA, I've gotten hands-on experience with drones and automated systems, which has really shown me the practical side of what we learn in class.
People oriented at heart
Before I came aboard the NEA-Industry Scholarship programme, I became friends with one of the cleaners, who had a granddaughter who was my age. I learnt that behind all the automation and systems, there are real people doing important work on the ground. Our chats made me realise that we need to keep the human element in mind. This is what makes Environmental Services interesting to me – it is where engineering meets real people doing real work.
