Environmental Monitoring Research

Environmental Monitoring and Modelling Division

The Environmental Monitoring and Modelling Division (EMMD) develops and implements comprehensive air and water quality monitoring programmes to provide timely and reliable information on Singapore's air and water quality. Through scientific monitoring, data analysis and modelling, EMMD supports evidence-based environmental management, policy development and operational decision-making to safeguard public health and the environment.

EMMD's work encompasses environmental quality monitoring including ambient air, coastal and inland water, pollution incident management and response, air and water dispersion modelling studies and environmental research. Such research looks into long-term environmental trends to better understand the complex interactions of chemicals and pollutants in the environment and gain greater insights on emerging pollutants (e.g., marine litter and microplastics). Working closely with government agencies, research institutions and industry partners, EMMD continuously strengthens Singapore's environmental monitoring capabilities to support a clean, resilient and sustainable environment.
