Pest Control

Management of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs can range from 1mm (young) to 10mm (adult) and are black, brown or maroon in colour. They prefer locations where they can hide and feed regularly like sleeping areas, under wall paper, behind picture frames, electrical outlets, inside spring boxes, mattress pads and in night tables.

Vector Potential of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are not known to transmit diseases to humans. However, their bites can cause discomfort, itching, and allergic reactions in some people.

Detection, Treatment and Control

Detection of bed bugs can be done via visual inspection of furniture and the deployment of surveillance traps. The typical treatment and control plan for bed bugs involve a combination of non-chemical and chemical methods, such as vacuuming, hot laundering, steam and heat treatment, elimination of harbourages, and the use of insecticides. Premises with bed bug infestation would be advised to engage a pest management company.
