PLANNING GUIDELINES FOR DEVELOPMENTS IN THE VICINITY OF MRT TRACKS

Dear Sir

We refer to your letter dated 17 Jul 95.

2          The current noise guideline adopted to guide developments in thevicinity of MRT tracks is 67 dBA (Leq 1 hour) at the facade of building.Generally, the guideline can be achieved by providing the following buildingsetbacks for residential developments near MRT tracks:

Orientation of Building Building Setback
Fronting 35m
End-wall facing track 25m

3          We would like to clarify that the end-wall of a building which faces the MRT may have glass blocks or fixed glass panels so long as they have thesame noise attenuation effect.

4          The current building setback guidelines may be reduced provided that noise abatement measures are incorporated in to the design of buildings to achieve acceptable indoor noise levels within noise-sensitive rooms such as living/dinning, study and bed rooms. Acoustic consultants may have to be engaged to propose noise abatement measure and to assess if acceptable indoor noise levels could be achieved.

5          Please contact me if you need any clarification.
