Solid residues such as sludges from wastewater treatment facilities and fly ashes from waste incinerators may contain toxic contaminants such as heavy metals. Such wastes shall be treated to comply with the landfill acceptance criteria, also known as the Toxicity Characteristics Leaching Procedure (TCLP) limits, before disposal at Semakau Landfill.
Application for written permission to dispose of such wastes must be accompanied by a recent report of analytical results from TCLP leachate tests carried out on the wastes.
