COS 2023 Energy Efficiency Fund
Enhancements to Energy Efficiency Fund

With effect from 1 April 2023, the Energy Efficiency Fund will be further enhanced. Pre-approved energy efficient technologies will be eligible for a fixed 70 per cent support of qualifying costs.

Manufacturing companies will be provided with certainty of the grant amount when they invest in energy efficient equipment.

The grant application process will also be simplified by streamlining the measurement and verification requirements.

Companies are encouraged to tap on the enhanced grant to defray the cost of switching to more energy efficient equipment.

COS 2023 MELS MEPS
Improving Energy Efficiency of Home Appliance

As part of NEA’s continual efforts to improve the energy efficiency of home appliances:

  • Energy labels will be introduced to portable air-conditioners and more types of lamps in 2024.
  • Over the next two years, the energy standards for air-conditioners, refrigerators, lamps, and televisions will also be raised to lock in efficiency gains and remove less efficient appliances from the market.

These will help to further reduce energy consumption in our households, and help consumers reduce their utility bills by choosing more energy efficient appliances.

COS 2023 Disposable Bags
Disposable Carrier Bag Charge at Supermarkets

From 3 July 2023, larger supermarket operators with a company-level annual turnover of more than $100 million, will charge a minimum of 5 cents for each disposable carrier bag.

The mandatory charge will cover around 400, or about two-thirds, of all supermarket outlets across Singapore. These include large supermarket chains such as NTUC FairPrice, Cold Storage, Giant, and Sheng Siong. These supermarkets will be easily identifiable through collaterals displayed at their premises.

The charge will apply to all disposable carrier bags, not just plastic bags, as all bags require resources and generate carbon emissions during their production and disposal.

Consumers are highly encouraged to bring along reusable bags when out shopping, as we take an important step towards zero waste.
