This is a full version of NEA’s reply issued to the media agency; published in Lianhe Zaobao, 27 Jan 2025.
Enforcement action will be taken against those who urinate or defecate in public areas
We thank 沈文风for the letter, 《随地小解须惩罚》.
Urinating or defecating in public is an offence under the Environmental Public Health (Public Cleansing) Regulations. The National Environment Agency (NEA) will take enforcement action against any person found committing such unhygienic and socially irresponsible acts.
In 2024, NEA took close to 700 enforcement actions against public urination or defecation, and offenders are liable to a maximum fine of $1,000 for the first conviction.
Members of the public who observe such acts are encouraged to utilise NEA’s online feedback form on www.nea.gov.sg or myENV mobile application (www.nea.gov.sg/myenv) to report details of the incident.
