A collective effort is needed to keep Singapore clean
We thank 林德坤for the letter, “垃圾不止,执法何在?”
The National Environment Agency (NEA) is aware of the littering feedback surrounding bus stop 50229 and have stepped up enforcement in the area. Since January 2025, NEA has issued seven tickets for littering and other public hygiene offences at the bus stop and within its vicinity. The area is also cleaned daily.
To uphold high standards of public hygiene and cleanliness, NEA adopts a multi-pronged approach, including enforcing against litterbugs, and closely collaborating with our stakeholders on educational efforts, outreach programmes and ground-up action.
In 2024, about 12,400 tickets were issued for littering. Last year, NEA also conducted about 130 enforcement blitzes at littering and smoking hotspots compared to 21 blitzes in 2023. NEA also strengthened its camera surveillance capabilities and scaled up CCTV deployments.
NEA will continue to address the littering situation through public education and enforcement. A collective effort by all is needed to keep Singapore clean. By not littering, we are doing the right thing by showing care for our living environment, and consideration to our cleaners and fellow residents.
