Graves located along Chinese Cemetery Path 8, between Chinese Cemetery Path 3 and Path 11 within the Choa Chu Kang Chinese Cemetery

Singapore, 27 February 2019 – On 18 July 2017, the Government announced that 45,500 Chinese graves at the Choa Chu Kang (CCK) Chinese Cemetery would be exhumed for future expansion of the Tengah Airbase (TAB). The National Environment Agency (NEA) had on 27 September 2017 announced the commencement of the claims and registration exercise for the exhumation of 45,000 affected Chinese graves dated between 1955 and 1999 under Phase 7 of the Choa Chu Kang (CCK) Cemetery exhumation programme.  NEA will now undertake the exhumation of the remaining graves [1] under Phase 7A of the CCK Cemetery exhumation programme. Graves affected under Phase 7A of the exhumation programme are located along Chinese Cemetery Path 8, between Chinese Cemetery Path 3 and Path 11 within the CCK Chinese Cemetery.  A map on the location of these graves can be found in Annex A. 

2          Newspaper notices to alert the next-of-kin of those buried in the affected section have been published on 27 February 2019 in Lianhe Zaobao and The Straits Times.  Next-of-kin (NOK) who wish to claim the remains can use the Claim Registration Form in the notice to make their claims, or do so online through the NEA website. Please see Annex B for more information about making a claim and the exhumation process.

3          The claims and registration period is from 27 February 2019 to 30 September 2020.  Exhumation of graves will commence after the registration of claims.  Claimants will be notified of the exhumation by NEA at a later date.

4          A signboard will be put up at the cemetery to indicate the location of the graves to be exhumed under the CCK Phase 7A exhumation programme.  NEA officers will also be on site to provide assistance, brochures and the necessary forms to facilitate claim registration by visiting next-of-kin.
