   Industry Spotlight & Innovation
Lifting the Standard for the Singapore Hazardous Chemical Waste Infrastructure
Localising global leadership position in hazardous chemical waste management and processing and setting a new industry benchmark with the state-of-the-art Hazardous Chemical Waste Treatment Facility (HCWTF) constructed recently
in Singapore.
Veolia Singapore
Understanding the challenges hazardous waste producers face when selecting appropriate management solutions for their chemical waste, Veolia has leveraged more than 40 years of experience in the hazardous waste market in Europe and around the world from within the Group to establish a flagship facility here in Singapore. Veolia’s new facility provides comprehensive hazardous waste treatment backed by the very best global technical know-how and the support of 24/7 local and international specialist expertise. This chemical processing facility can effectively treat difficult-to-manage toxic industrial waste in a sustainable and circular manner with best available technologies delivering the latest global performance, environmental and safety standards.
Veolia Integrated Hazardous Chemical Waste Treatment Facility (HCWTF)
Veolia’s HCWTF is a fully integrated treatment facility designed to process hazardous waste across a range of high temperatures, physico-chemical and

biological treatment methodologies. This comprehensiveserviceofferingwillprovide local waste producers with reliable and cost-effective hazardous waste services that ensure beyond compliance with local Environmental Public Health (Toxic Industrial Waste) Regulations and to meet the latest international environmental and safety standards required to fulfil the needs and commitments set by large corporations.
The HCWTF will deal with all forms of hazardous waste–solids, sludge, liquids, gases, and will be able to manage all forms of embodied environmental and health risk–flammability, toxicity, corrosivity and reactivity. This full range of hazardous waste concerns will be addressed through cutting-edge technology and the latest recycling, recovery and treatment expertise.
Sustainability
The HCWTF features the latest developments in high-temperature incineration and flue gas treatment technology ensuring the complete removal of all toxic waste materials and outstanding
environmental performance in compliance with NEA and the more stringent International Standards for air emissions. A large proportion of hazardous materials are treated in the High-Temperature Incineration (HTI) system which includes an integrated cogeneration plant, where energy recovered from this process is used to generate steam and electricity. This cogeneration activity will allow the Veolia HCWTF to be self-sufficient in energy terms based on treated waste throughput.
In addition to energy efficiency, the HCWTF will also make use of reusable wastewater and rainwater for further resource efficiency while ensuring discharge of effluents from the site under the Public Utility Board’s stringent standards. Veolia’s commitment to sustainability has been further demonstrated with the HCWTF administration building achieving the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award.
Safety
Veolia has deployed the latest in control systems to operate the HCTWF and has reduced operations risk within the facility
