Year of Public Hygiene

COS2024 YoPH WebBanner_New

Singapore has made significant strides in our public hygiene journey, and the combined efforts of the Government, our citizens, the industry, and other stakeholders have been instrumental in shaping Singapore into a city renowned for its high standards of public hygiene.

Keeping Singapore clean requires all of us to play a part. The Year of Public Hygiene extends beyond mere enforcement efforts. It also involves mobilising businesses, the community, and individuals to actively contribute to the maintenance of good public hygiene practices for the benefit of all.

As the leading public organisation responsible for ensuring a clean and sustainable environment for Singapore, we are committed to upholding and strengthening high standards of public hygiene. This year, we are placing particular emphasis on the following:

  • Tackling cleanliness hotspots
  • Tackling unhygienic public toilets
  • Enhancing vector control
  • Enhancing industry capability and leveraging technology
  • Rallying the community

Calendar of Activities

Keep a lookout for more exciting activities planned in this Year of Public Hygiene:

SG Clean Day

Dates: 28 Jan, 28 Apr, 28 Jul and 27 Oct 2024

About the activity: Every quarter, the Public Hygiene Council (PHC) works with all 17 Town Councils and various partners to cease sweeping at selected public areas including housing estates, parks, dormitories, attractions, reservoirs, shopping malls, ActiveSG sports centres, PA’s Integrated Community Hubs, transport nodes, and arts and heritage venues. The aim is to highlight the impact of litter accumulation when we go without cleaners, and foster greater appreciation for their efforts. This quarterly initiative encourages everyone to take personal responsibility in keeping our shared spaces clean. You can also help keep Singapore clean by disposing of your trash responsibly or organising clean-up activities in your neighbourhoods.

How can you get involved?

Every individual plays a crucial role in preserving Singapore's cleanliness and livability. To kickstart your participation, here are some ideas and resources to inspire you:

Public Hygiene Council

The Public Hygiene Council (PHC) was formed in 2011 to promote good hygiene practices and to improve personal and public hygiene standards in Singapore. The Council, comprising representatives from multiple sectors, works to strengthen and coordinate community efforts to improve the cleanliness and hygiene standards in Singapore. It will also complement the Government's efforts in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Here are some initiatives in place to support and strengthen the Keep Singapore Clean movement:

Clean and Green Singapore

Clean and Green Singapore (CGS) aims to inspire Singaporeans to care for and protect our environment by adopting a clean, green and sustainable lifestyle. Each of us can shape our neighbourhoods and common spaces through our green practices, championing a sustainable way of life, and by being a more gracious society. Together, we can make Singapore A Liveable and Endearing Home, and A Vibrant and Sustainable City.
