Burial

The Choa Chu Kang Cemetery Complex is the only cemetery in Singapore open for burials.

i) Bookings for burial can be made over the phone or in person at the service counters.

Booking hours:
Mondays to Sundays 8.30am – 4.30pm
Closed for lunch from 1pm - 2pm

ii) Payment of the burial fee for the grave plot is to be made at the service counters before the burial.

iii) Documents required for verification during processing of application::

• Digital death certificate. If unavailable, either of the following alternative documents is acceptable:-
  • Written confirmation of death documents
  • Manual Confirmation of Death (mCOD)
  • Public Hospital Printout (NEHR)
    

• Permit to Bury
  
• Identification Papers of Next-of-kin and Applicant (e.g. NRIC, passport, etc.)
• Letter of Authorisation (if applicant is not a next-of-kin)

iv) Payment modes: 

• NETS
• Cash Card
• Credit Card 

*Foreigners are allowed to be buried in Singapore only if the deceased persons have immediate next-of-kin (parents, spouse, children only) who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents. Prior written permission must be obtained from the National Environment Agency. 

v) All cancellations and changes to confirmed bookings must be made by the applicant or next-of-kin of the deceased in person at the service counters, together with all relevant documents.

Note:
With effect from 1 November 1998, the burial period for all graves will be limited to 15 years. At the end of 15 years, the graves will be exhumed. For those whose religions permit cremation, the exhumed remains will be cremated and stored in columbaria niches. Where burial is mandated by religion, the exhumed remains will be re-buried in smaller individual plots.

Cremation

There are three crematoria in Singapore – one government-managed crematorium, and two private crematoria.

1. Government Crematorium

  (ii) If applicant is not a next-of-kin and deceased was a resident in Stay-in-Care* or MSF residential home (RH) [Letter of Authorisation for Stay-in-Care* Resident and RH]
  

   *Stay-in-Care refers to hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, shelters and senior group homes.

v) All cancellations and changes to confirmed bookings must be made by the applicant or next-of-kin of the deceased in person at the service counters, together with all relevant documents.

Ash Scattering Facilities

Cremated ashes may be scattered in the ash scattering facility, i.e. Garden of Peace, located at Choa Chu Kang Cemetery and operational from 17 May 2021.

Ash scattering is currently available at Garden of Peace:

Garden of Peace

There are 2 entrances to Garden of Peace.

• The North Gate is located along Old Choa Chu Kang Road, next to bus stop no. 31139.
• The South Gate is located along Cemetery South Street 18, at the junction of Cemetery South Street 18 and Muslim Cemetery Path 11.

i) The Garden of Peace is open from 9am to 5pm daily, except on days where maintenance is being carried out.

ii)  Booking for Ash Scattering Service at Garden of Peace can be made online, over the phone, or in person at the following service counters.

iii)  Payment is to be made at the service counters before the ash scattering service.

iv) Documents required for verification before ash scattering service:

• Application of Inland Ash Scattering
• Identification papers (e.g. NRIC, passport) of authorised person or next-of- kin

vi)  All cancellations and changes to confirmed bookings must be made by the applicant or next-of kin of the deceased in person at the service counters, together with all relevant documents.

Only fine ashes are to be scattered at the Garden of Peace. For the service of turning cremated human ashes into fine ashes, you may proceed to the following facilities.

Columbaria

Cremated ashes may be stored in columbaria niches. Niches are available at two government-managed columbaria and private columbaria.

Bookings for government-managed columbaria can be made online, or in person at the service counters.

ii) No advance booking of niches is allowed. 

iii) Payment is to be made when the niche is confirmed. 

iv) Documents required:
