Mount Vernon Columbarium Re-location Programme

03 April 2017 Update:

As the physical re-location of niches in Mount Vernon Columbarium (MVC) by the Government Contractor has not commenced, next-of-kin (NOK) may still visit the niches in MVC during Qing Ming in 2017.

The last day for submission of claim registration for niches in MVC is 30 June 2017

If you have received an acknowledgement following the submission of your claim registration, an NEA officer will contact you at a later date to provide more information on the next step to be taken. We appreciate your understanding and patience on this matter.

Announced by the Housing & Development Board (HDB) in 2013, the Mount Vernon Columbarium (MVC) will be cleared to make way for the development of Bidadari Estate.

Next-of-kin who wish to claim the niches at MVC are encouraged to submit the completed claim registration form and supporting documents by 30 June 2017.

Claimed niches will be re-located to Mandai Columbarium (MC), unless claimants opt for niche re-location to Choa Chu Kang Columbarium (CCKC) or other private places of their choice. Claimants who prefer to claim the ashes and perform scattering at sea also have the option of doing so. Niches that are not claimed by 30 June 2017 will be removed from MVC. If they remain unclaimed for three years after removal, NEA will undertake to scatter the ashes at sea.

Re-location of Niches to Government Columbaria

All claimed niches will be replaced with the same niche type (i.e. standard niche to standard niche, or family niche to family niche) at Government columbaria. A niche re-located to MC will be assigned a similar row placement as its previous niche position at MVC, and niches within the row will be assigned sequentially on a first-come-first-served basis.

For re-location to Government columbaria by NEA’s contractor according to NEA’s schedule, there will be no cost to the claimant for (a) re-location and installation of the niche; (b) provision of a standard niche marble plaque; and (c) provision of a replacement urn if the original urn is damaged during the re-location process. If claimant opts to engage a private contractor for the re-location, the arrangement shall be at the claimant’s own cost.

A claimant may request a change in niche placement, niche type and/or niche classification (i.e. Christian or non-Christian), subject to availability. Requests for such changes would incur administration fees at prevailing rates.

Please see Annex B for more information.

Re-location of Niches to Private Columbaria

Claimants may choose to re-locate the niches to a private columbarium or other private places of their choice at their own cost.
