between the company’s circular material flows and its business performance.
The CTI empowers companies in their circular transition through a better understanding of their circular economy potential. It allows them to:
• Identify circular opportunities and linear
risks with the aim to improve company
longevity and resilience.
• Set a baseline and monitor progress on
their circular transition.
• Respond to customer, consumer and
investor inquiries.
• Start value-chain conversations on shared
circular priorities.
• Attract new business by simultaneously
advancing the circular objectives of their customers.
The CTI puts a company in the driver’s seat. It has been developed to inform business decision-making and the way a company builds and implements its own circular economy roadmap through a seven- step cycle [Figure 3].
The CTI is designed to be an iterative process, encouraging companies to monitor their performance over time and
continuously improve their circularity and capture associated financial benefits.
The objective is not to classify companies in having a good or bad performance but rather support the companies in taking the right steps in setting their priorities and sets of actions for their transition to circular economy. In order to support and guide companies through the CTI process, WBCSD has partnered with Circular IQ to develop the CTI Online Tool www.ctitool.com. This free online resource facilitates the CTI process and reduces the time needed to complete the Collect and Calculation steps of the process. Additionally, the Tool stimulates collaboration by initiating value-chain discussions with suppliers and customers in requests for data and information. The Tool will be released to limited audiences in January and purposefully rolled out to the public.
In measuring the progress of anything, the first step is always setting a baseline. Measuring circularity is no different. It’s time for companies to set their baselines.
