The Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Revolution
In the decades since lithium-ion batteries
(LIBs) were rst invented, they have become indispensable to modern life. Without a compact source of power, we would not have the laptops and mobile phones we have come to take for granted; neither would we be able to embrace transformative new technologies like electric vehicles and renewable energy. https://bit.ly/2QlUFTQ

Recycling Our Paper Waste: Solving Deforestation One Sheet At A Time
It’s true that saving paper (and in turn saving trees) used to be a big discussion topic at home, school and of ce, but these days you don’t
hear much about it. This is likely because paper recycling has become ubiquitous; most of us are now well-versed in how to sort recyclable paper from other “waste.”

How to recycle coffee capsules
In 2014, Mintel found that 14% of British people (3.7 million households) own and use a capsule drinks maker. By 2016, according to The Grocer, that gure had risen to 30% of the population. In all of that time, provisions for capsule waste remained a very low priority. https://bit.ly/2PVfvKU

NSW’s land ll gap
Following the lead of Victoria and South Australia, the NSW EPA (EPA), in partnership with Infrastructure NSW, announced it was developing a waste strategy. The strategy aims to set a 20-year vision for reducing waste, drive sustainable recycling markets and identify and improve the state and regional waste infrastructure network. It will also aim to provide the waste industry with certainty and set goals and incentives to ensure the correct infrastructure decisions are made to meet community needs.

Optimising Waste Collection on Small Islands for Intensive Recycling
Marco Ricci-Jürgensen explains how the Italian island of Pantelleria has become a beacon of best practice for the collection, handling and recycling of municipal solid waste on small islands with economies heavily based on tourism. https://bit.ly/2QkFlqI

Green infrastructure nature’s best defence against disasters
UN Member States called for increased investments in ecosystem-based solutions for disaster prevention. Healthy ecosystems play a crucial role in preventing environmental disasters and mitigate climate change as well as reducing their harmful impacts.

Green Infrastructure: How to Manage Water in a Sustainable Way
From highways to bridges to airports, America’s infrastructure is in dire need of a face-lift.
The critical systems we rely on nationwide
endure chronic overuse and underinvestment, including our stormwater management systems. An estimated 10 trillion gallons of untreated stormwater runoff, containing everything from raw sewage to trash to toxins, enters U.S. waterways from city sewer systems every year, polluting the environment and drinking water supplies. https://on.nrdc.org/39hr1bh

Building Green Cities
Many cities are turning to green infrastructure solutions that utilize nature’s ecosystem services in the management of water resources and associated climatic risks.
Green infrastructure is a strategically planned network of natural and semi-natural areas that are designed and managed to deliver a wide range of environmental, economic, and social bene ts.
