To encourage companies to reduce packaging waste and recognise companies that have done so, the annual 3R Packaging Awards are presented to signatories who have made notable efforts and achievements in reducing packaging waste. In 2015, 16 companies received the 3R Packaging Awards from the Senior Minister of State for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Amy Khor, at the WasteMET Asia Industry Awards Dinner. To help companies explore the potential for waste reduction through packaging design and choice of materials, NEA launched a new packaging 3R Packaging Awards and a new benchmarking database for product packaging benchmarking database on 22 October 2015 which contains the packaging weight benchmarks for selected categories of consumer products. The database aims to enable businesses to improve their packaging design and use of materials by allowing them to compare the weight of their product packaging against that of similar products sold locally. In December 2015, NEA also started engaging various stakeholders to gather views on the possible introduction of mandatory requirements for more sustainable packaging waste management in Singapore. companies received the 3R Packaging Awards from Minister for the Environment and Water Resources 19 84 While e-waste can yield valuable and scarce materials, it also holds trace amounts of hazardous substances that pose a serious threat to health and the environment if not properly disposed. To safeguard public health and the environment and move Singapore closer to becoming a Zero Waste Nation, NEA has kicked off a study into efficient systems for collecting, recycling and managing e-waste. It is expected to be completed in early 2017. Along with this, NEA launched a national voluntary partnership for e-waste recycling that consolidates all e-waste recycling programmes under one umbrella. This will build greater public awareness of e-waste recycling. NEA is inviting stakeholders from the whole e-waste value chain to become members of NEA launched the 3R Fund to encourage companies and organisations to implement projects to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. Projects funded must show either an increase in solid waste reused or recycled, or Exploring e-waste recycling 3R Fund yields results this voluntary partnership. To support the voluntary partnership, a fund available only to members of the partnership has been set up.
