This surge in major events makes it a challenge for NEA to ensure that public areas where events are staged remain clean before, during and after the events. 2015 was a particularly busy year for NEA, with an unprecedented number of nationwide events, including the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, National Day Parade, Jubilee Weekend, 8th ASEAN Para Games and the year-end countdown events. To return public areas to normalcy after major events, NEA worked closely with event organisers, service providers and various stakeholders to develop rigorous cleaning plans and robust operations plans. We also closely monitored and audited the cleaning work that was carried out. Because of this careful planning, Singapore’s reputation as a clean and green city was upheld. NEA’s ability to plan and execute large-scale operations was evident throughout the year. At the 28th SEA Games, for example, NEA’s strong partnership with the community allowed it to mobilise over 15,000 volunteers for the event. The 28th SEA Games also underscored NEA’s commitment to protecting the environment: for the event, NEA dedicated over 6,000 man-hours to overseeing food hygiene and cleaning operations at many different competition venues. The new standard will set the requirements for the design and features of refuse collection vehicles, as well as for noise emission and odour control. The working group is made up of representatives from SPRING Singapore, MOM, Land Transport Authority In2014,NEAcreatedapictorialguideforofficecleaning. To complement the pictorial guide, we partnered key stakeholders in 2015 to develop productivity indicators to measure the level of productivity of a Workforce Skills Qualifications trained cleaner while performing various office cleaning tasks. The indicators are presented in the form of an Excel sheet, allowing users to easily calculate the productivity level of a trained cleaner and compare that against the productivity benchmark for different types of premises. Cleaning companies and service buyers (including facility management companies and building owners) can easily access both the productivity indicators and calculator on the websites of both NEA and the Environmental Management Association of Singapore. and Singapore Accreditation Council, together with stakeholders in the waste collection industry. Under the new standard, refuse collection vehicles will be compatible with the SS-EN 840 receptacles used by licensed general waste collectors for collecting waste and recyclables.
