In a series of mega carnivals called the SG50 Carnivals, we shared our pride in the environment over the past five decades by recounting Singapore’s environment story. We also saluted this landmark moment by recognising our vibrant hawker heritage and rallying the nation to share the vison of a clean and green city. NEA joined hands with the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources (MEWR), Community Development Council (CDC), the national water agency (PUB) and National Parks Board (NParks) to organise five carnivals to mark Singapore’s 50th birthday. The Clean and Green SG50 Carnivals were held throughout the island in the months of October and November 2015. The main launch event located at the heartlands of Punggol Eco Town was officially opened on 31 October by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister for the Celebrating Singapore’s Golden Jubilee with Clean and Green SG50 Carnivals Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli, and Mayor of North East District, Teo Ser Luck. The carnivals brought the nation together to celebrate the building of a green and gracious community. Through interactive exhibitions and workshops, visitors to the carnivals understood the importance of caring for the environment. Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as Public Hygiene Council, Waterways Watch Society, Tzu Chi Foundation and PM.Haze also partnered with NEA to share environmental messages with visitors.
