Severe Weather Systems and Natural Disasters

INTRODUCTION

Severe weather systems and natural disasters such as tropical cyclones, tornadoes, earthquakes and tsunami are forces of nature with energy to destroy lives and properties, leaving paths of devastation in their wake. This 1-day course introduces to participants the causes of these phenomena and discusses their impact on our physical environment. The course also introduces the roles and services that the Meteorological Services Singapore (MSS) of National Environment Agency is providing to Singapore and the region. A tutorial at the end of the course will enable the participants to assess their understanding of the various topics and the knowledge gained.

OBJECTIVE

To enable participants to gain an appreciation of some severe weather systems & natural disasters and their impact on the regions & Singapore as well as the types of monitoring/forecasting/mitigation available.
