PEEL or the Programme for Environmental Experiential Learning is an out-of-the-classroom learning programme that expands your knowledge of environmental management through a series of site tours and visits to environmental facilities around Singapore. Facilitated by experienced guides, each PEEL Trail gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how Singapore manages and maintains a clean environment to achieve its environmental objectives of Clean Land, Clean Air and a good standard of Public Health.
Check out the following full-day trails below!
In land-scarce Singapore, the amount of refuse generated daily demands a highly efficient system of management. Through planning and continuous monitoring, we have developed one of the most sophisticated refuse collection and disposal models in this region. On the PEEL Clean Land Trail, gain exclusive access to state-of-the-art waste management facilities and visit the world’s first offshore landfill which exists alongside a vibrant eco-system.

Singaporeans enjoy one of the highest standards of public health in the world and correspondingly has one of the lowest rates of environmental communicable diseases. It is a wonder that Singapore is located in the malaria-endemic tropics but is malaria-free. On this trail, learn about the various types of mosquitoes and their breeding habits and gain insights into the strategies adopted to make cooked food in Singapore safe for consumption.

There is overwhelming consensus among scientists and governments around the world that global warming is human induced. The bad news is that there may not be much time left for ecosystems to adapt to this change quickly enough. However the good news is that there is still time for us to minimise its devastating effects. Join us in understanding the relevant issues and gain insights into what we can do to save our planet in the battle against climate change.

If all rubbish goes directly to the waste treatment plants, Singapore would need to build one new incineration plant every 5 to 7 years, and one new landfill every 25 to 30 years. Recycling closes the loop in waste management. It enables products to be broken down into their componet and returned to the manufacturing-consumption chain. On this trail, witness the new life of materials as they go through industrial recycling and take a peek at the recycling efforts in Singapore!
