Ionising Radiation
L1 - Application for a licence to manufacture, possess for sale or deal in irradiating apparatus.  Companies selling or dealing in ionising radiation irradiating apparatus need to apply for the L1 licence. If the company is going to provide demonstration or maintenance of the equipment, the company will have to apply for individuals to obtain L5 and/or R1 licences.
L2 - Application for a licence to manufacture, possess for sale or deal in radioactive materials Companies selling or dealing in radioactive materials need to apply for the L2 licence. The company may need to apply for individuals to obtain L6 and/or R1 licences or the L6A licence to transport the radioactive materials.
L3 - Application for a licence to keep or possess an irradiating apparatus for use other than sale Owners of ionising radiation irradiating apparatus need to apply for a L3 licence for the possession of each irradiating apparatus owned by the company. At least one applicant for the L5 licence to be responsible for the safe use of the irradiating apparatus is required and any other person using the apparatus has to apply for R1 registration to work under the supervision of the L5 licensee
L4 - Application for a licence to keep or possess radioactive materials for use other than sale Owners of radioactive materials need to apply for a L4 licence for the possession of the radioactive materials owned by the company. At least one applicant for the L6 licence to be responsible for the safe use of the radioactive materials is required and any other person using the materials has to apply for R1 registration to work under the supervision of the L6 licensee.
L5 - Application for a licence to use irradiating apparatus (other than sale) For companies in possession of ionising radiation (IR) irradiating apparatus, at least one applicant for the L5 licence to be responsible for the safe use of the IR irradiating apparatus is required.
L6 - Application for a licence to use, handle and transport radioactive materials (other than sale) For companies in possession of radioactive materials, at least one applicant for the L6 licence to be responsible for the safe use of the radioactive materials is required.
L6A - Application for a licence to handle and transport radioactive materials For companies transporting radioactive materials, at least one applicant for the L6A licence to be responsible for the safe handling of the radioactive materials is required.
L7A - Application for a licence to import a consignment of irradiating apparatus Every consignment of ionising radiation (IR) irradiating apparatus to be imported requires a consignment licence (L7A) unless it is specified under the Exemptions in the Radiation Protection (IR) Regulations. (Note: Manual application of this licence is necessary if it cannot be done through the Singapore Customs TradeNet online system.)
L7B - Application for a licence to export a consignment of irradiating apparatus Every consignment of ionising radiation (IR) irradiating apparatus to be exported requires a consignment licence (L7B) unless it is specified under the Exemptions in the Radiation Protection (IR) Regulations. (Note: Manual application of this licence is necessary if it cannot be done through the Singapore Customs TradeNet online system.)
L8A - Application for a licence to import a consignment of radioactive materials Every consignment of radioactive materials to be imported requires a consignment licence (L8A) unless it is specified under the Exemptions in the Radiation Protection (IR) Regulations. (Note: Manual application of this licence is necessary if it cannot be done through the Singapore Customs TradeNet online system.)
L8B - Application for a licence to export a consignment of radioactive materials Every consignment of radioactive materials to be exported requires a consignment licence (L8B) unless it is specified under the Exemptions in the Radiation Protection (IR) Regulations. (Note: Manual application of this licence is necessary if it cannot be done through the Singapore Customs TradeNet online system.)
L8A - Application for a licence to transit a consignment of nuclear materials Every consignment of nuclear materials to be transited requires a consignment licence (L8A).
R1 - Registration as a radiation worker Any radiation worker using the ionising radiation irradiating apparatus and/or radioactive materials has to apply for R1 registration to work under the supervision of the L5 and/or L6 licensee respectively.

Non-ionising Radiation
N1 - Application for a licence to manufacture or deal in the apparatus specified in Parts I, II and III of the NIR regulations Companies selling or dealing in non-ionising radiation irradiating apparatus such as ultraviolet sunlamps, microwave ovens, medical and industrial ultrasound apparatus, magnetic resonance imaging apparatus, entertainment lasers, and, all types of Class 3b and Class 4 laser apparatus need to apply for the N1 licence. If the company is going to provide demonstration or maintenance of entertainment and/or high power lasers, individuals will have to apply for the N3 licence. (Medical use equipment can only be supplied to selected premises under specific conditions.)
N2 - Application for a licence to keep or possess for use the irradiating apparatus specified in Parts II and III of the NIR Regulations The organization which possesses non-ionising radiation irradiating apparatus such as industrial ultrasound apparatus (with power output of 50W or more), medical imaging ultrasound apparatus, therapeutic ultrasound apparatus, magnetic resonance imaging apparatus, entertainment, and, all types of Class 3b and Class 4 laser apparatus need to apply for a N2 licence for the possession of each irradiating apparatus. (Medical equipment are only allowed for use at selected premises under specific conditions.)
N3 - Application for a licence to use the irradiating apparatus specified in Part III of the NIR regulations This licence is for laser worker using or working with class 3b or class 4 lasers. The usual (general) guideline is this: If the user is not able to access the class 3B/4 laser, and there is no risk of exposure to class 3B or class 4 laser power, then it is not necessary to require the user to hold the N3 licence.
N4A - Application for a licence to import the irradiating apparatus specified in Parts I, II and III of the NIR regulations Every consignment of non-ionising radiation irradiating apparatus to be imported such as ultraviolet sunlamps, microwave ovens, medical and industrial ultrasound apparatus, magnetic resonance imaging apparatus, entertainment lasers, and, Class 3b and Class 4 lasers requires a consignment licence N4A. (Note: Manual application of this licence is necessary if it cannot be done through the Singapore Customs TradeNet online system.)
N4B - Application for a licence to export the irradiating apparatus specified in Parts II and III of the NIR regulations Every consignment of non-ionising radiation irradiating apparatus to be exported such as medical ultrasound apparatus, industrial ultrasound apparatus (power output of 50W or more), magnetic resonance imaging apparatus, entertainment, and, Class 3b and Class 4 lasers requires a consignment licence N4B. (Note: Manual application of this licence is necessary if it cannot be done through the Singapore Customs TradeNet online system.)
