Piped Drinking Water Quality

Piped drinking water quality regulations and standards

In Singapore, piped drinking water is produced and sold or offered for sale by PUB and some other water suppliers. In order to maintain a high standard of the quality of piped drinking water, the National Environment Agency (NEA) has prescribed a set of water quality standards under the Environmental Public Health (Quality of Piped Drinking Water) Regulations. The water quality standards prescribed under these regulations are based on international guidelines such as those established by the World Health Organisation (Geneva).

Water suppliers submit water safety and sampling plans to NEA for review in accordance with the Code of Practice on Piped Drinking Water Sampling and Safety Plans. This Code provides a set of guidelines to water suppliers on the preparation and implementation of water sampling and safety plans in the production and supply of piped drinking water.

There is also a Technical Committee on National Drinking Water Quality Standards formed by NEA, which consists of experts from various disciplines to periodically review the piped water quality standards.

Drinking water service installations within building premises

The quality of water in water storage tanks and other drinking water service installations within buildings that receive water from PUB, is not regulated by NEA.
