The Environmental Health Institute (EHI) of the National Environment Agency (NEA) is a centre of excellence for vector biology. It was officially designated a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre (WHO CC) for Reference and Research of Arbovirus and their Associated Vectors on 22 February 2011, and since then has been re-designated thrice, in 2015, 2019 and in 2023, each time for a four-year term. The institute will continue to support WHO’s efforts in strengthening the capacity and capability for the surveillance and control of arboviral diseases in the region.
Terms of reference
Collaborate with WHO to strengthen capacity of entomological and viral surveillance and control among WHO Member States, to support the development of collaborative regional and global network of national dengue surveillance systems.
Provide testing protocols, surveillance kits, reference biological materials and tertiary referrals to enhance the quality of surveillance and disease diagnostics during outbreaks
Partner WHO and the Member States in operational research under WHO guidance and support the implementation of Global Arbovirus Initiative
