If all rubbish goes directly to the waste treatment plant, then Singapore would need to build one new incineration plant every 5 to 7 years, and one new landfill every 25 to 30 years. Recycling closes the loop in waste management. It enables the raw material used in manufacturing to return to the end-user, thus keeping it within the consumption chain.
