NEA Pays Tribute to Environmental Trainers
SEI Trainers' Day 24th July 2006
There's a land of justice, cities filled with pride
A mountain of hope, just on the other side
Across a river of indifference, and a valley of despair
There's a tower of courage, piercing through the air
I have a dream for our children, I want to take them there
And we are building the bridge
One small stone at a time
As SEI moves towards building the requisite knowledge and skills for a sustainable tomorrow, there is no forgetting the partners and educators who share its vision. In the spirit of celebrating their valued contributions, SEI convened its annual Trainers’ Day on the 24th July.
The event, which took place over an appetizing buffet spread, was graced by the presence of the guest of honour, Mr. Lee Yuen Hee, CEO of NEA. It also saw the attendance of many NEA personnel and external trainers from the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Public Utilities Board and the private sector.
Mr. Ong Eng Kian, the director of SEI, addressed the audience on SEI’s milestones and developments in the past year. SEI had, through its trainers, contributed extensively to capacity building, with about 80,000 man hours of training from some 200 courses. The constant refinement and conception of new courses, like the SEI-MEM Environmental Management Executive Programme, also illustrates SEI’s motivation to do more and do better. Acknowledging the importance of having quality trainers, Mr. Ong announced SEI’s commitment towards providing professional development courses for them.

The Award Winners at the VIP table
After the speech, everyone present was suitably tickled by an entertaining slideshow depicting the attributes of a star trainer. These prized traits were later celebrated at the award presentation ceremony, when Mr. Lee Yuen Hee gave out awards for the best trainers of the year. The Valued Trainer Awards were presented to Mr. Leow Poh Chuan and Dr. Pranav Joshi from the Environmental Health Department and Ms. Yang Hong from the Resource Conservation Department. Mr. Ramli Mahmood, the consultant trainer for the vector control course, was the proud recipient of the NEA Partner Trainer Award. Mr. Tai Ji Choong from the Environmental Health Department was conferred the NEA Trainer Award of the year.

As the number of chocolate éclairs quickly diminished, the appreciation displayed, gratitude felt and bonds forged over the afternoon, laid another foundation stone in the bridge towards tomorrow’s lands of blue and green. Together, another year of dedication and collaboration lies ahead for SEI and its much-valued trainers.
