On 10 July 09, Director SEI played host to the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources from the Republic of Tatarstan, His Excellency Aglyam Saredinov. HE Saredinov was in Singapore from 29 Jun to 10 Jul with a delegation of senior Tatarstan leaders for a 2-week study programme hosted by MFA.
The session started with a presentation of Singapore's environmental development journey by SEI. It was then followed by a sharing of Singapore's waste management strategies by WMD as HE Saredinov was keen to find out how Singapore's waste management framework could be successfully replicated in Tatarstan.

In the discussion that followed, HE Saredinov shared with us the Tatarsan's waste management system and expressed interest in Semakau's landfilling system that is the first of its kind in the world. HE Saredinov also noted the high recycling rates of several waste streams in Singapore and how waste minimisation formed an integral part of Singapore's waste management loop.

During his stay in Singapore, HE Saredinov was very impressed with Singapore's landscaping efforts that resulted in a multitude of trees and green open spaces. Before departure, DSEI presented HE Saredinov with the book "Clean, Green and Blue", which marked the end, and beginning, of many more meaningful exchanges in the future.
