On 28 Oct 2005, eight organizations including NEA entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalise their commitment to jointly promote Singapore’s capacity building efforts through environment-related training and technology transfer to the region and beyond, under the Singapore Environmental Training Programme (SETP). The SETP is an initiative led by SEI under the Action Plan Committee for International Environment Relation (APCIER - for SGP 2012). It is for the development of a coordinated environmental training framework and to harness the competencies of related agencies in Singapore.

The eight MOU signatories were NTU, NEA - Singapore Environment Institute, NParks, NUS - Asia-Pacific Centre for Environmental Law, NUS - School of Design & Environment, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, PUB and Singapore Polytechnic. CEO (NEA) Mr Lee Yuen Hee graced the MOU signing ceremony and represented NEA in the signing of the MOU.

“…No single organization holds all the answers to the environmental issues that we face. While sharing knowledge with our counterparts in other countries is important, it is also important for us to share among ourselves, so that we can have a more integrated understanding of the Singapore’s environmental experience and leverage on each other’s strengths and expertise…Singapore has learnt and benefited from many countries from their sound environmental practices. While we still have much to learn, we are now in a position to share our unique experiences with our neighbours and friends”, said Mr Lee Yuen Hee, CEO (NEA), in his address at the MOU signing ceremony held at the Singapore Environment Institute.

The first joint project to be undertaken by the MOU partners will be to raise the profile of the SETP at the Enviro Asia 2005 exhibition to an international audience.
