SEI Builds Energy Management Capacity through SCEM Training
29 October 2008

Renowned Expert, Mr Lee Eng Lock, sharing on ACMV equipment technologies

SEI kicked off the Singapore Certified Energy Manager (SCEM) Training programme (Professional Level), with the first training module on 29 Oct 2008. It is aimed at training a critical pool of engineering professionals and energy managers/specialists in Singapore to undertake energy improvement works in buildings and industrial facilities. The SCEM training programme offers a formal training regime and certification system in the growing ares of energy management. To help build up a local pool of about 1,000 professional energy managers over the next two to four years, NEA has introduced a training grant of S$6 million to co-fund the course fees under the Energy Efficient Singapore Masterplan.

A trainee sharing his project experience on chiller efficiency

The first training module on Airconditioning & Mechanical Ventilation (ACMV) is delivered by Mr Lee Eng Lock, who is globally regarded as a pioneer & expert of energy efficient building & industrial designs. He and his team of trainers took the first batch of SCEM trainees through a knowledge-intensive 3-day programme which comprises lectures, videos, case studies and group assignments.

A key feature of the curriculum involved group work where trainees worked in teams to recommend energy improvements that they could embark on at their workplace, which led to a very interactive & fruitful session. The trainees also shared their previous project implementation experiences and exchange tips, which helped sharpen each other's ideas.
While the 3 days of training stretched the mental capacity of the trainees to absorb much information within a short time, nonetheless, it sets them on the right track towards grasping critical concepts on energy efficiency with the subsequent SCEM modules to come. Trainees' feedback revealed that they found the training superb and that they have received very valuable pointers throughout the programme. They were certainly looking forward to the next SCEM module!
