The Singapore Environment Institute (SEI) and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on 23 Feb 2006 to formalise the organisations' commitment towards the enhancement of the industry standard in pool maintenance. Under the Memorandum of Understanding, SEI and ITE will jointly contribute expertise to develop a training programme in Swimming Pool Maintenance for Technicians.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Mr Ong Eng Kian, Director of SEI and Mr Tan Seng Hua, Principal of ITE College East on behalf of their organisations. "In the process (of selecting training partners), 3 important considerations, namely selectivity, scalability and sustainability were adopted. As a forward looking and progressive institute and company, both SEI and Aqua Works, in our opinion, have the commitment to assist the growth of this niche (education) industry in Singapore," said Mr Tan in his welcoming remarks.
In addition to the development of this training programme, SEI and ITE intend to promote other co-operative activities of mutual interest such as joint cooperative training programmes, visits and exchange of trainers and other experts for studies, seminars, training and visits, as well as the exchange of know-how on training standards including information on assessment and training policies.
The signing was witnessed by Mr Kwok Wai Choong, Head of Training and Development, SEI, Mr Kong Chee Seng, Director of the School of Engineering, ITE College East and guests from SEI, ITE College East and its industry partner, Aqua Works and Engineering Pte Ltd.
