16 June 2009
Letter of appreciation from AIM
As part of a 4-day study programme in Singapore, a delegation of 25 senior officials, comprising mainly Deputy Secretaries and Under Secretaries, from various ministries in India paid a visit to NEA on 17 June 2009 under the arrangement of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) of the Philippines. SEI’s inaugural collaboration with AIM is testimony of its continuing bid to foster partner relations globally and facilitate sharing of Singapore’s best practices on the environment with foreign governments.

DSEI taking delegates through Singapore's environmental Journey
The delegates were first taken on a journey to Singapore’s past by DSEI. The presentation, which provided a peek at the environmental challenges confronting the young nation and how Singapore could achieve the current status of a Clean and Green nation, was based on the book “Clean, Green and Blue”, authored by MEWR’s Permanent Secretary Mr Tan Yong Soon.

Besides delivering presentations on environmental management and sustainable development, NEA’s senior officials from PCD, WMD and IDPO also formed an expert panel that took up questions from the floor. The delegates were generally anxious to find out how Singapore’s policy and infrastructural systems on the environment could be successfully replicated in India that has very different sociopolitical and geographic attributes from Singapore.
DGs and Directors from NEA , MEWR and PUB joined the Indian delegates at the networking reception that followed. Although social niceties were uttered, they could not detract from the delegates’ learning objectives. Issues on environmental governance were raised on a lighter note with the senior management, which sparked active debate and spawned new perspectives.

Concluding the visit was a tour of NEA’s ENVision Gallery. The affective exhibits and personable commentary enabled the delegates to see the lighthearted side of Singapore’s checkered environmental past. This meeting of great minds and the buildup of knowledge through exchange should set the stage for advancing environmental causes collectively by Singapore and India in the future. AIM Officials were also deeply impressed with SEI's organisation ability, commenting that the programme was very well organised and useful to the delegations. AIM is keen to work with us on a longer term collaboration and we certainly welcome them aboard our network of global partners!
