MODULE INTRODUCTION
This module will provide a background to some of the key environmental management and assessment tools that are available to companies and policy decision makers. This module will introduce the tools (such as environmental management systems, environmental impact assessment, strategic environmental assessment, life cycle analysis, environmental reporting and risk assessment analysis) and will look at the pros and cons of each and assess under which situations these tools can by used to improve environmental performance and reduce costs.
The module will also look at the practical implementation of green accounting as a policy decision making tool, drawing on the European experience of using green GDP through the European Commission’s ExternE and Green Accounting projects.

Programme participants should preferably have 3-5 years of working experience and hold a basic degree.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Ms Carrie Johnson is part-time lecturer at NUS (MSc in Environmental Management) and Director of PAIA Consulting. Carrie has previously worked with the UK Government, European Commission and International Energy Agency advising on energy & environmental issues, including research work assessing the environmental impacts of energy life cycles, and an assessment of CO2 disposal options. Carrie was a contributing author to DOBRIS 3+ report on climate change and to the IEA/OECD report "Energy and Environmetnal Technologies to Respond to Global Climate Concerns".
