This course is one of the Core Modules under the Singapore Certified Energy Manager (SCEM) Program managed by the Energy Sustainability Unit (ESU). The SCEM is fully recognised by the Association of Energy Engineers who certified qualified energy engineers under the brand name of Certified Energy Manager ® CEM, with formal training and examination. By agreement signed between AEE and ESU, all certified SCEMs may apply to be certified as AEE’s CEM through the ESU immediately upon certification. Interested individuals are advised to contact ESU for more information.
This course is a core module for both Associate and Professional levels under the SCEM Program. |

ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT
Energy affects all aspects of development. Central to sustainable development, proper management of the quality and quantity of energy services is important to ensure that the world’s energy needs are properly balanced against the backdrop of social, economic, and environmental development.
This Course will explore the relationship between energy and the environment. At the end of the Course, participants will be able to:

Understand the difference between the various types of energy sources

Understand the environmental impacts of energy usage

Understand the tools and mechanisms that can be used to mitigate these impacts
-
Perform simple calculations using environmental management tools

Engineers and individuals intending to seek accreditation as Certified Energy Managers under the Singapore Certified Energy Manager (SCEM) Program. Please see pre-requites for eligibility.

Members of the public who are interested to learn about the relationship between energy and the environment
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
ASSESSMENT
A 2-hour examination will be conducted two (2) weeks after the end of the Course to evaluate the level of understanding. Participants will only be allowed to sit for the assessment subject to a minimum 75% class attendance. (Exam Instructions)
PRE-REQUISITES
Candidates intending to seek accreditation as Certified Energy Managers under the Singapore Certified Energy Managers (SCEM) Program must attend and pass the prescribed modules and assessments, and meet the following pre-requisites:
Associate level minimum qualifications:

an engineering or technical certificate, or its equivalent, with at least 3 years of relevant working experience; or
-
a polytechnic diploma from the local polytechnics, or its equivalent; or
-
a specialist diploma in relevant disciplines.
Professional level minimum qualification:
A degree in engineering or relevant technology subject
ACCREDITATION
This course is accredited under the Professional Engineers Board's Continuing Professional Development Programme for Engineers in Singapore. Participants will gain 28 PDU units upon completion of the course. Course participants must complete this course with at least 75% attendance rate.
