INTRODUCTION
Industrialization has brought about a lot of technological advances and benefits to mankind. Alongside this development, however, the use of fossil fuels over the years has increased tremendously and created environmental problems in the process. The unpredictable weather and global warming due to greenhouse gases are some of the problems that we have been experiencing these days. Another well -known problem is acid rain which resulted from the mixing of acid gases and rain water and this can cause large-scale damages to the soil, forest and other living things.
Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) are methods and analysis used to monitor the amount and quantify the dust or particulates and pollutive gas emission discharged to the air. These methods are not just on a grab sample basis but rather are done on a continuous basis by continuous gas analyzers and its associated systems. With such monitoring, one can observe the trends of these various types of pollutive gases, and also record these values not just for measurement of the efficiency of combustion but also to know the amounts of such gases that have been discharged. These systems can help plant operators to monitor their discharges and thus be conscious of the steps that they need to take to protect the environment we all live in.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
This workshop covers topics on the latest standards in calibration, implementation and certification of CEMS. Participants will learn about the historical perspective of CEMS and current regulatory requirements and practices. Topics on analyzer technologies, operation and maintenance issues and case studies will also be presented. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will gain a wide-ranging understanding of issues and in-depth perspectives of CEMS.
