Earthquakes, Tsunamis and Tropical Cyclones
INTRODUCTION
Earthquakes, tsunamis and tropical cyclones are forces of nature with the energy to destroy lives and properties, leaving paths of devastation in their wake. This 1-day seminar introduces participants to the causes of these phenomena and discusses their impact on our physical environment. The seminar also introduces the participants to the role and services that the Meteorological Services Division (MSD) of the National Environment Agency is providing in the region and Singapore.
OBJECTIVE
At the end of the seminar, participants will gain a geological appreciation of the formation of earthquakes, tsunamis and tropical cyclones, their impact on the regions and Singapore, the types of monitoring/forecasting/mitigation available and the types of weather information and services from MSD.
