Formation of the Singapore Environment Institute
Since 1 July 2002, the Singapore Environment Institute (SEI) has become the training division of NEA. SEI has evolved and undergone extensive review and rationalization of its role and strategies. The new thrusts for SEI are to be the focus of environmental training and education in Singapore as well as to become a premier training institute that provides quality environmental training to enhance the competence of NEA staff, the workforce in the local industries and to proactively promote knowledge transfer beyond Singapore.
SEI will concentrate on developing part of its training programme based on NEA's core competences and resources. SEI will come in where there are training gaps that could be as a result of new legislations or market failure in offering the training opportunities. SEI will play the role of an integrator, facilitating knowledge transfer from multiple agencies and training partners to SEI's clientele. SEI will also act as a regional/local trendsetter and incubator of new programmes in emerging environmental areas, garnering expertise from both within NEA and worldwide partners. SEI will constantly rejuvenate the environment sector with relevant programmes to meet evolving training needs as new environmental concerns surfaced, both locally and regionally.
SEI is now ready to embark on its new journey!
